Have they got him taking neupogen shots? That is a very likely cause for the achey bones. I remember thinking on my 1st round of consolidation, I thought this was supposed to be easier. Didn't seem like it to me. Prayers sent

The only shots he received was all last week while his numbers were up something injected in his dtomach to prevent blood clots.

My son just finished round 1 of consolidation and had bad bone pain. He did get the shot Dave asked about and 6 days later the pain started. He got iv pain meds and said it helped a lot.

I hope Jamie feels better soon. It sounds like my son is about 4 days ahead of him and today he said he just has a little pain.

My sister just had her 2nd round of consolidation. She started her treatments in February but it took 85 days for her numbers to come up after her first round of consolidation. They did give her one Neupogen shot after first consolidation round to help numbers come up since it was taking so long and she said that it did cause a lot of pain in her bones. She got a shot after each day of chemo in her second round and didn't seem to have as much pain after those. If he is getting the shots, this may be the cause. I have also heard others on here state that sometimes bone pain is felt when the body starts to produce cells in the marrow again after a round of chemo. So maybe the bone pain is a good thing.

I just recently finished my 3rd consolidation, fourth round overall. If you get the "white blood cell catalyst" i.e. neupogen or neulasta, that can cause some bone pain in the hips thighs, etc. I get neupogen during my treatments and a neulasta when I finish each round. I've only had the bone pain maybe once or twice from the shots, but everyone responds differently. When I went into consolidation, I thought that perhaps since it was less it surely would be easier than induction and to some extent that is true. I personally feel pretty exhausted after each round, I'm 23, but within a few days I start feeling "normal" again. Each person will have their own experience with the chemo however. I do hate the neutropenic part of each round. I feel so vulnerable to even the simplest of infections.

Consolidation rounds were some of my worst. For one thing you never totally recover from the previous rounds, so the chemo is continuing to work on the organs -- that is just about everything. Bone/joint pain could well be a by product of the fever, which will be caused by an infection. I had sharp pains that lasted for a short duration -- still do but rarely at this point. I am thinking it is just something yelling for its share of the blood resources that just are not there. So yes, all of these things are expected and while they are no fun, they are not things to get alarmed about as long as his medical team is aware of them. If he is only six days from the end of the last chemo round his is probably hitting bottom just about now, and recovery will be at least another couple weeks. So I would not be too overly concerned at this point, as you can also see from the other posts. We will be praying for Jamie -- he is going to be OK -- daveB
