Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

Is Cleaning Service Ok?

My sister will be going this Friday to get a bone aspiration to see if she might have relapsed. I was thinking of having a cleaning service come to her house while she is gone and have them clean. She has a hard time since she is so tired and we try not to be there too much so that she doesn't get sick. Is this a good idea or would having more people at her house not be a good idea. I just wanted to surprise her with a clean house when she came home but I don't want to do something to compromise her either. Suggestions?

What a sweet gesture. I think it is a great idea as long as you use a company that specialises in cleaning for medical purposes. I know in my area there are several that specialize in this area. Their procedures are different and they screen their employees. You may be able to locate them through hospice devices. I never had one because I married adv airforce man who cleans like no bodies business but would have loved to give him a break.

Praying for a clean biopsy. How long since your sisters last chemo day one?

If I understand what you are asking (date of last chemo treatment till now) she had her last dose of chemo on February 17th. She is coming up on 60 days without a chemo treatment. She heard from MDA today and her WBC was up due to shot given and platelets were up due to transfusion on Monday. Hemoglobin was still borderline. We will know tomorrow is she has sustained the numbers on her own or not. Regardless, they will still do aspiration on Friday. Hoping for good results.

I know you went through this also. She's pretty scared about what the results will show but she has read through what you posted and I think it helped alleviate some of her fears. We will pray and cross our fingers while we wait for the results.

I am so happy my experience had helped. As I've stated, I had a bmb before every consolidation due to the extended time between sessions. My fist cycle I went 73 days. The fact that your sister held on to some of the platelets is a good sign. I reduced dose is not the worst thing. My med group gives 1.5 vice 3.0 to all patience 60 and over and they have had great outcomes. Your sister and I are not that far from 60. What number does her platelets have to hit to get chemo. My threshold was 100, which I never reached.

Her platelets have to get to 50 but they don't go above 5 without a platelet transfusion and then 3 days later at her next blood draw, back down she is and another transfusion. Her name is Jo. Thanks for the prayers!

Have they discussed hla matching her platelets. This makes a huge difference when it comes to maintaining the transfusion bumb. It is very costly but worth it. How many sessions is she scheduled for. My family is praying for Jo.

As far as I know they have not discussed HLA typing with her. Maybe it has something to do with the clinical trial she is in but her treatment seems to be a tad different than what I read on here.
