Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

Port infections are the bane of the AML patient. After I got my transplant and all was going well, I got a port infection. Fortunately, they were going to take it out anyway and so I went home with nothing. Ports frequently have to be removed for those reasons Generally, as soon as the patient is over the infection, being treated by vein, another port is inserted. There are also things that they can do with alcohol influsion (etc.) to maintain the cleanliness of the port.
Remember....speed bumps....they happen, so slow down and keep riding the wave. Jamie will get over this and you will too.
