Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

Hello everyone I'm a 35 yr old male who just recently got diagnosed with aml. I had induction chemo and finished on January 6 2017 I had some complications like sweet syndrome a couple picc lines go bad. It's now February 3 2017 and my blood counts haven't recovered. I've been getting platelet transfusions every day now every other day. Once in awhile I get red blood. My WBC was down until they gave me a shot of neutropen they went up real high but sense have slowly trended down now in the 3.7k. The doctors are concerned why my platelets and stuff aren't going up by now. They also done another bone biopsy which I haven't got results of. My question is has anyone seen this type of slow recovery after induction it's already been a while.

So sorry about your DX but happy you found us. Slow count recovery is a common issue. I have provided a link below that shows previous responses on this topic. I am nearing four years since DX, by the grace of almighty God. I was plagued with slow recovery to the point that my four consolidation sessions, subsequent to Induction, took twice as long as expected. In the link below, I describe the specifics.

What subtype of AML did you have
Is your treatment path chemo only or SCT
Where are you being treated

Same here, for me it was always very slow, I would get both blood and platelet transfusions after all 4 chemos. I remember comparing my counts to others and it seemed I was always the last. Today I'm doing well in remission since my initial DX in Nov. 2013- hang in there there's a lot to hope for xxx

Not sure what my subtype is my Dr said I was intermediate risk. My genetics test was normal. Since my last post I have been released from hospital and my counts are going in the right direction. The results of bm test came back inclusive because it showed some white blood cells, but they think it could possibly be from the nutropen shots they gave me like 10 days before bmb. My counts are wbc 4k+ -rbc 10.8 - plt 97k from 37k when I left hospital February 9. I have another bmb this Thursday. I feel fine have a lot more energy than I did in hospital, and have a huge huge appetite, I've been eating nonstop. I'd really appreciate any advice as to my situation and also any questions I should ask my doctor. I'm being treated in missouri at university hospital in Columbia. However I really need to get out to California where my family is and to start treatment out there. So any advice on the best time, to get treatment switched out there would be very helpful. Thank you to all of you. I'm just trying to learn as much as I can, and hoping I can beat this.
