Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group

Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

I'm so exicted!!! The Stem Cell Coordinator just called and said they have found THREE stem cell donors that are a "10 out of 10 match"!! And two of those actually have an extra chromosome that matches too! I'm so happy, I can't believe it!!!! The Stem Cell Doc is out of town this week, but the coordinator is going to discuss this with him next week and he will likely want to see me and get the ball rolling on this! Said that we are likely looking at a 5-7 week timeframe before it happens. I'm just still in disbelief. Prayers have been answered!

Praising almighty God for this outstanding news!!!! So grateful for the amazing people in the world who are willing to donate, as well! My family will continue to pray for a smooth path to SCT and subsequent cure from the demon AML.

Fantastic news!
I have my one match, who's supposed to donate in about 3 weeks and I hope nothing changes...
Having multiple perfect matches is AMAZING!

I keep following your path as our ages and timelines are very similar.

That is GREAT news! I know it is a big relief to know that there is at least one person out there that can and is willing to donate to you. Abby sounds like you and my son are on the same time line, his admin date is set for 8/22/14.

So happy Lora that you have three matches. That is exactly what my husband had and we were so amazed and thankful. Some people do not have any matches and he had three--and so do you! We wish you the best. Time goes slow and then before you know it you are on the other side of the transplant.

3 seems to be a lucky number. I too had three matches, and then your doctors will make a decision as to which of the matches would be the best. My doctors decided that a KIR mismatch would be the best for me, because I had a t-cell depleted transplant. I don't know if you are having the same kind. If you are, ask your doctors about a KIR mismatch and what their feeling are about it.

It is so great to have matches and even better to have choices. There have been some on DS who could not find a suitable match. Then all of the second choices get activated, which are never as good as a 10/10. I am happy for you, and you should look forward to being well again.

Cliff, thanks for the info on the T-Cells. I don't know anything about the T Cells yet, but I bet I will before this is all over! I feel like I've been given a crash course in Hematology since this began.
