Devasted that my husband lost a short battle (24 days) with AML. His age (70) put him at a higher risk. He had complained of neck aches for a week. He then developed a 103 fever so we got him to the Emergency room. His white blood cell count was over 1,000. He was admitted to the hospital right away. They discovered in addition to the AML he also had a bad infection that they would have to clear up before doing chemo. After antibiotics he did the first round of chemo and the white cell count dropped to .1. Unfortunately while waiting to see if the leukemia was gone, he developed a mass at the bottom of his cerebellum. Doctors didn't think he would make it through any kind of surgery. Hoping it was a bacterial infection, they once again gave him antibiotics. Unfortunately the mass continued to grow and doctors said there was nothing more they could do. In essence he died of complications from AML. His service his Dec. 7 and we are asking for donations to the Leukemia society, instead of flowers. My husband was such a caring selfless man. I miss him more than words can say. I am at the crying at a blink of the eye stage.  I pray for all of you with this cancer and hope a cure is in the near horizon.
