Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
Well the break from the hospital was nice while it lasted. Last night my husband started running a fever. They admitted him while they are waiting to see if the blood cultures show any infections. His chest x-ray and urine test came back clear. There could be an infection or the doctor said the fevers could be part of the engraftment process. They are playing it safe and starting him on antibiotics. Trying not to be discouraged, we know this is common, but still feels like two steps forward one step back.
No rest for the weary, is there? I am very sorry to know that you and your family are having to deal with the worry of your husband's fever and the need for him to be re-admitted. I know it probably is not of much comfort to know that many others will have dealt with this, too - I will be thinking of you and your husband, and hope they are able to knock out the fever and its source, asap, and send him home again where he can get back to the business of healing!

Nice Birthday gift to my husband, he was released from the hospital today. All of the tests came back negative for infections, they believe the fevers were all part of the engraftment process. I am happy though that they erred on the side of caution, as difficult as it was for him to go back into the hospital, some things you can't assume or guess at the cause.
His counts look great, he is feeling better each day. Still tires easily, but that is improving as time passes. Happy to have him home and thankful to all of your for your support.

It looks like a picked a good day to post on DS. I am thrilled that your husband is fine. Never forget that the road to good health after AML is rutted, so just try to step over the potholes. This is certainly great news.
