Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

Sadly, we learned today that Julian has relapsed. He had 35% blasts in his blood already. We are waiting for further instruction from his doctor about where we will go for transplant (Minneapolis or Milwaukee). He is only 7 months post chemo, which I believe is a relatively early relapse. I am really scared. Two small pieces of good news (I believe) are that his blasts look the same as before (so perhaps not mutated) and he has a full sibling and another on the way. I appreciate any advice and information that you all can offer about transplant as we embark on this new journey.

I am so sorry that Julian has relapsed. Hopefully his sibling is a perfect and he can move forward to transplant without delay.

I am so sorry he has relapsed. It sounds like they are on top of everything with Plan B and we will be praying all goes extremely well.

There are absolutely no words I can say right now for how sorry I am to read this post. I have been off the boards all weekend bc my anxiety is thru the roof waiting for Tonys bmb results but I couldn't delay replying to your post anymore. Being the mother of a two year old, I am physically ill thinking of you and Julian and the road you've had to travel w your sweet boy. I pray for you every day and hope that his doctors have a quick plan In place to get him back into remission and onto transplant.
Where are you having treatment? When will they start the donor testing and search?

Jacki -- this is a setback but you should not take it as being hopeless -- there are a lot of things that can and will be done for Julian. Your positives are quite good, and you need to keep him as positive as possible. Have confidence in your med team and if you feel like something does not sound right be sure to get an outside opinion -- most doctors welcome this since it takes the heat off of them; but they obviously cannot recommend it. But it sounds like Julian is in the best of hands and so I would have faith in them and support everything that they are doing. Please keep us up and we will help as best we can -- we are praying for Julian -- dave

I am heartbroken too, but happy that Julian can get a transplant. I know he is very young, but that should work in his favor during the process. He will get through all of this, as he did before. The process is no fun, but it is not horrible either. We are all here for you and Julian.
