Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group

Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

Dear All,

I just spoke with Laarissa and she is "alive". She is very tired and weak but at day four that is to be expected. She so appreciates all your prayers-please keep them coming. Her donor was so generous with his cells, she received twice the normal amount and her med team at Huntsman were able to freeze additional cells-praise God!

I am so happy to hear that Laarissa is doing as well as can be expected and wow twice the amount needed what a wonderful donnor.

Dear all,

Laarissa is at day 11 with her counts at rock bottom. She is suffering with mouth sores. She continues to walk laps multiple times a day andrequest your continued prayers.

We are sending support and prayers for Laarissa. This is the worst of it. As I mentioned in Abby's (zkat) discussion, warm salt water mouth rinses helped Sal the most. (Actually, the rinses helped along with self-administered dilaudid/morphine every 15 minutes, whenever the light was green!) Unfortunately Sal was quarantined almost the whole time, so he was going stir-crazy in his room. I'm glad Laarissa is able to walk around.

Thank you for the update. Laarissa is in my prayers and will continue to be until she no longer wants to be.

Any day now her new cells will start making blood and then she will start feeling better.

Like Sal, Jeremy has been in isolation his entire time in the hospital so it is great that she gets to walk around and exercise.
