I think that is a realistic expectation. I think it took me about 8 months to get the hair on my head back but the eyebrows came back quicker. I'll have to admit it was kind of nice not having to shave for a while. They warned me that my hair may change colors (I am a redhead but more of a gray head now) but it didn't.

I saw your other post, I am glad you are feeling better and more optimistic than before. Sometimes I don't think the docs and nurses realize the huge impact that they can have on us. I'll be praying for you and your family, praying for smooth sailing from here on out and a long, healthy and happy life.

My son has a full head of hair and a beard 6 months after his SCT. Between induction and transplant he also had regrown all his hair and that was 5 months with 3 consolidation rounds in there.

Dave my son was blond with a red beard and now he is dark brown with a red beard.

I love these types of questions, because like Dave J said, they show that you are looking at less serious and more positive things.

I never lost my eyebrows. They thinned a bit, but were there. Even though I got radiation, as you will, they promised me that my hair would come back and it did. I think it took at most 3 months to get some peach fuzz, and I don't think it took anywhere as long as DaveJ to have a decent head of hair. It looks the same as before, but I think the texture is softer (thus my wife and daughters like touching it!). I still remember getting my first haircut post transplant and it was a delight. Like a little child! My eyelashes started coming back when my hair did, gradually. They too look the same. I inherited very straight and long eyelashes from my grandmother and father and they came back just as they were.

This is the type of talk I want to hear from you. Forward thinking. The narischkeit (as they say in Yiddish) which means the little silly things. It is a great perspective and you WILL NOT ONLY GET THROUGH YOUR AML, but you will regain your previous beauty, only now with an even more beautiful soul.

It really depends on the drugs you are getting. My hair after induction started growing back and by the time I did my final round I had a full head of hair and now I can even grow a beard! I used to wear my hair short, but now I don't forsee me ever doing that again. Just take it a day at a time and it'll return much fuller than before!

My hair started to grow back after I completed induction. I never lost my lashes. My consolidation took seven months so by then my hair was about three inches long. I used Nioxin shampoo and conditioner to help stimulate hair growth and Lalash on my eyelashes.

My hair came back super curly with no grey. At least once a week, someone at work comments that I look ten years younger. I tell them I have had the Leukemia makeover-I don't recommend it ;-)

In my first round with AML, when I got only chemo, my hair only fell after induction. And I'd say about 50-60% of my hair fell and some of it didn't. I kept my eyelashes and my eyebrows thinned (which was good as I have very thick eyebrows). I felt comfortable enough to go without a wig about 4-5 months after I finished induction (meaning I had very short hair, but a full head of it)

With round 2 I got my SCT/BMT and the pre-transplant chemo made me almost completely hairless (other than very thin eyebrows and the occasional eyelashes). I am now almost 6 months (wow, I can't believe it!) after transplant, and about 3 weeks ago I started going out without a wig. Again, short hair (so far, looks like it's coming back curly, a new experience...part of the AML makeover....).

You will have some major growth by mid-summer if not before. My last chemo was mid December and I had significant hair on my head by the end of February. Eyebrows and lashes come back first. Take care -- dave
