Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
Jamie just called it was hard to understand him because he was filled with tears of joy, his sister was called from Sitman Cancer Center just now,
she is a 6 out of a possible 6 match. We were told there was only a 25% chance of her being able to be a donor so we did not have our hopes up. We have been told that the remaining 4 markers will come from cord blood stem cells that they can program to match Jamie. This we assume will speed up the time table for the transplant, we go up on the 29th for preliminary testing then if all is good on to transplant, earlier they said sometime in late fall most likely, so I am going to assume this second round of consolidation that he is currently in will be the last before bmt. PRAISE THE LORD!

This is such great news. So sorry you and Jaime have been on such a cruel aml roller coaster but the great part is at the end of the ride when he is cured once and for all. You two are in my prayers daily.
