Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

It has been a while, but Julian continues to make strides post BMT. He had his first bone marrow biopsy last Friday. Results came back 100% donor cells! One of the cords already won out. He also shows no evidence of disease. Great start for our little guy! He has had low grade fevers that have kept us in the hospital. We are at day +28 today. Nothing has shown up in cultures. He tested positive for Parvovirus, which he had in July and tested positive for even before his transplant. He has also had a rash, diarrhea, and continued vomiting (though not quite as bad as before). A skin biopsy and intestinal biopsy have come back negative for GVHD, so the doctors think he has a virus that they cannot test for. The rash is improving, and he seems to finally be feeling better, so we'll take it! We are looking forward to getting out of the hospital though. Has anyone else had a double cord transplant where one cord won out by the first BMB? I was surprised that there was not more of a fight going on. He did have engraftment syndrome, so maybe they fought it out there? I guess I don't care, as long as there is no leukemia and none of his cells. By the way, we saved baby Joelle's cord blood, and she is a perfect match for him. Hope we never need it! Hope you are all doing well.
