Oh Julie, I think everything is fine with you. That platelet sometimes takes a while to come up. As long as the other counts are fine and stable, no need to worry. My platelets are still in the 70's. I am now down to every three months check-up.

Hi Julie, you sound very like me - can be such a positive cheerleader for others but when it comes to myself, I worry over the smallest things. Even asked the docs if I should be concerned that my wbc didn't come down completely to nil but they said my type of leukaemia, myeloids are in with the neutrophils and if they are zero they are happy :). Platelet numbers can jump up and down so high as they are big numbers in the range - I have good feelings for you and don't believe anything is of concern. Your recent BMB was all good and no reason to think this has changed with the change in your platelets - all other counts good so hard as it is (believe me I know) chin up and look at your beautiful girls and think positive :)

No worries. The bmb is what counts. I never had a problem with the platelets but my friend who also had inver 16 did. He has been in remission for over 5 years. His plate count varied for over a year. Like I said before the longer you are removed from this horrible incident the less you worry about the little things. Praying for you. YOU WILL BE FINE!!!!

It's wonderful news that you are through with treatment. Don't worry about your counts right now. You seem to have a team of doctors that keep ahead of everything and are extremely cautious...(that' great!)
Your counts will go up and down like a yo yo, especially your platelets, at least until you start recovering from the effects of all that, your body has been through.
You will get used to not worrying over everylittle thing, and start to trust that your bloodwork is always changing. Relax, you are truly blessed with a beautiful family....(All girls, they are beautiful)

The HCT climbing is actually a plus -- normal is about 40 or so, so you are getting there (although this is nothing to worry about). So, the only issue seems to be the platelets, which my onc said (way back when) that he has seen many patients who plateau significantly below the normal range, and that becomes their new normal. For me it was in the 80s. Realize that one test can have sampling errors. The measurements are bouncing around some average amount -- in your case probably between 55 and 75 or so -- I would expect your next one might be like about 65. While this is below the normal range (150-400) it is not really that critical to a normal life. Or as my onc used to say -- just don't run with scissors. Their keeping a close eye on what is going on is good at this point -- if something is wrong you sure want to know it. But these numbers alone are really not indicative of a problem. Only a blast count can really determine if there is an issue -- and I guess that has to be in a BMB. Lets hope and pray that your next reading will be above 73 in order to avoid that. But I do not think that worrying is in order at this point -- dave

I agree with the wise sage. The rest of you know him as Dave. My platelet counts were very fickle for a good while and now are just fine. Don't forget, megakaryocytes (the cells that break up to make platelets) and neutrophils come from the same precursor cell. So as the white count stabilizes, the platelets bounce around, and vice versa. Your HCT would not be climbing if the red cell precursors were being crowded out by bad cells. So relax.

As Dave said, sometimes when the marrow engrafts you do end up with a new normal. My HCT hit 40 only once and rests around 38 after 2.5 years. Phil, on the other hand, has a HCT in the low 40s after one year post transplant. Do not worry. I hope you don't need to get a BM bx. I don't find them painful at all, but just do not like getting them. My doctor said that I may never need another one. Just breathe that in Julie. You are not far behind.

Hi Julie, keep reminding your self how strong you are. Since my diagnosis I never had a platelets transfusion until I went for induction chemo. I was put in hospital Jan 15, got chemo a few days later and yesterday I had to have a platelet transfusion. ANC is only 680 and red is 9.5. My platelets were 7...so this is a waiting game. I have always said the worst part of this disease is the not knowing and the waiting to see what is going to happen. I have lived with the mean monster over my head since Sept of 2012. It is hard but I don't think about it much unless I feel sick, then I worry, otherwise I just try to enjoy the time in the moment. And I don't think of my counts to often, although now knowing what they are twice a week is a habit and I have to know. It seems once I know my counts things are easier and happier, so it is nice to know the counts. Especially if they are good. Hang in there, it seems your moving in the right direction. God Bless you and I hope you get better and are able to be with your lovely daughters for many happy days.

As all of you wise vets predicted, praise God, my platelets went up!!!

Two weeks ago, my platelets were 55 down from 73. Today they were 72!! My med team was very pleased. So was I because I dodged a bmb.
WBC steady at 3.9
ANC 2.5 to 2.1
HCT 35.6 to 38.5

The best news is I don't have to go back until April 21st

My family is actually planning a trip to California for my daughter's cheer commotion. We may even visit some of the amusement parks which has me a little nervous because of the germ factor. Ask that matters is were together.

Those darn platelets!!! :) I've looked back through my husbands labs and this is what happened to him: Jan 14, 2013 he had recovered from consolidation #4 (the last chemo) platelets were 290. Feb 20, 2013 platelets were 107. I'm really surprised I didn't freak out. I think we were still on cloud 9 after finishing treatment. Platelets have gone up and down since then but are now close to 200. I remember the doc saying this was normal after high dose chemo (bone marrow suppression). While his platelets have slowly climbed back his MVP (platelet size I think) has dropped every month. It is now down to 5.10. Doc doesn't seemed concerned about it yet so I'm trying not to be concerned either. It is weird how platelets can drop after you finish chemo but I think it is pretty common after all that chemo.
