Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

I'm actually day 15 of induction and things are going ok. Preliminary results from day 14 bmb look like remission but I'm not getting excited until finals roll in on Monday or Tuesday. Still fighting pneumonia but it's getting better. Lots of chest X-ray and CT, one broncoscopy, one breathing treatment and still nobody knows what it is. Viral? Bacterial? Fungal? So naturally I'm on meds to cover all. I don't feel sick and my Drs still think the fevers (which are getting better) are neutropenic. It's the pulmonary team that wants to do a repeat broncoscopy and an open biopsy and get answers. Sounds like my hem/onc team won't let that happen unless I get worse.
The worst part this time is mucositis. I cannot spit, swallow, talk or chew without intense pain. Great weight loss plan

Are they giving you TPN to provide nutrition. Also, I hope you are getting self-administered narcotics. You end up getting less that way. The only time I needed pain relief was during the mucositis that followed my radiation treatment. It was bad, but relatively short lived. The narcotics helped quite a bit and I only needed them for less than a week. You will get through all of that. I agree with your oncologist to hold on those invasive pulmonary tests unless you get worse, which you don't seem to be doing. Keep up your good attitude.

I'm so happy to see your update. I'm praying for remission! I agree with Cliff about the TPN. I needed it during induction for about 10 days.

I hope you just think "hang in there" -- things will get better when your blood number get back up, and they WILL get back up before too long. -- daveB
So sorry to hear about the mucositis. It is not fun, but remember that it is temporary. I am hopeful of the remission signs though. You are in my prayers daily. Haven't seen any donor updates, but don't worry about posting anything until you are back up and steady. I am sure that they are working hard behind the scenes.
