I developed a sensitivity to the bio patch and it hurt like heck above and around the port. it was stitched in place. I had minimal pain tho. I am getting a triple lumen. I had a dual for rounds one and two.. After a few days the pain went away, but I don't remember serious pain. Can you take something? Is it a pulling sensation?

i had horrible pain with my hickman port and then i developed a horrible rash around the site.they ended up removing it and I stuck with pic line in the arm for the rest of my treatment.i ended up being allergic to hospital tapes and had to have dry bandages on the site.I became a expert wrapping my arm in glad wrap for my shower

UGH. I had a Hickman triple lumen and never had any trouble with pain or rashes. It hurt just a bit putting it in, because I told them I did not want to be sedated for the procedure. It also hurt just a bit for several weeks after it was removed. I now don't even have a scar from it. I think that Phil's port was indeed put in deeply and that is why it hurts, but I am confident that the pain will subside with the days. KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE GUYS! (I threw in guys for another rhyme!)

thanks everyone.. the pain is slowly getting better.. i had no idea a port would hurt this much, they must have put it in with a shovel LOL. My chest hurts like if you pull a muscle, tender to the touch and if i try and use the arm on the side the port is in, it hurts... im getting old i guess.

It hurts to even touch the bandages.. I guess i need to put my big boy pants on. The pain isnt horrible but you def know its there, and forget about laying on it.
Ive been taking Ibuprofen, its like a pulling feeling in my neck area, my chest just plain hurts. Im hopeing itll be better tomorrow.

they gave me a key chain tag and card for my wallet and it says its a Vortex port...

i had five rounds of chemo, and harvested stem cells too, so in all, they 'dug' 5 times in the neck and 1 time in the thigh.:(, every time, they put the port, i would tremble before, and cry secretly after. it hurt me so much that my head automatically moved to the port side each time when the port was in.

Here, i stayed in patient for a month for each round of chemo. so, for one full month each round, i walked, ate, and slept with my head to the port side. :)
and one morning, i got up to find the port on the floor. it just miraculously came out! luckily, though my PLT is 1, yes, 1, i didn't bleed. I was so much blessed.

when they put the port for harvesting the stell cells in the thigh, they dug so deep that my stell cells just refused to come out. then, they pulled it out inch by inch for several times. i had nightmares that night. it hurt like hell.
i had scars left in the neck. i start to wear scarf. :)

Since you got your port, I'm assuming this means you are going for transplant soon? Do you have a date?

Yeah im being admitted for transplant on the 31st of Dec. :)

I dont know what port I have. Mine is in my chest since October 21, 2011. I had all my treatment in there, and I love it. Avoided tons of needles. I got blood, patlets, antibiotics, all IV by the port. Also was given a card. No BMT, just regular chemo.
While on treatment, i also developed some allergy to the plastic patches that covered the needle. After ending the treatment, doctor said I will have it for some time. I clean it up every 6 months (a nurse does. Some times it hurts. The area is sensitive. But I cant say anything bad about it. Its a blessing.
