I haven't been on this site in a while (I've been reading some of the recent posts to try to catch up on what's going on with everyone). Some background for the newbies: my husband was diagnosed with AML in Aug 2012 (the day before his 39th birthday). It was determined he had monocytic aml (M5) that was npm1+ and FLT3-TKD+. With no sibling match he went on to have 1 induction and 4 consolidations. He has remained in remission for 2 1/2 years now. The latest blood work this month confirmed he is still in remission. Microplatelets seem to be his only abnormality in his blood (which the docs say is normal for all the chemo he had). The next routine appointment is not for 6 months (at his 3 year mark). For all of those still in treatment...hang in there! One of our nurses during treatment was a 24 year aml survivor. She told us that one day this will all just seem like a nightmare (you'll sometimes wonder if it really did happen). At the time I doubted I would ever feel like that-it was so raw and painful at that moment. But she was right. We no longer think about aml everyday. It does sometimes just seem like a past nightmare. Bless you all and know that you are not alone in this struggle.
