Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
To put a possitive spin on things, on 23rd I have celebrated my 3rd re-birth. This time with balloons. Don't want to jinx it, but things are going quite well. I was diagnosed on 9-10-2012, BMT on 1-23-2013. Had a rough ride during first 6 months. Still some remnants of GVHD. Some symptoms are little annoying, some not, but mostly I have adjusted and live a normal productive life. Those who don't know my story have no idea there is anything wrong with me. To them I'm normal, active 52 year old who lost his hair :-).
I still seem to get sick easier than I should, went thru a flu and 2 colds just this winter. Had food poisoning during my trip to Rome last summer. However I do recover, just that sometimes it takes longer than it should. Sometimes my GVHD symptoms get worse because of the other illness, but they recede later. I'm very optimistic about my further improvement. Big plan this year is to get back to the physical shape I was before AML. It is a long shot, but not impossible.
I wish that those of you who are going thru the treatments and take some comfort and hope from my recovery. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

I am happy for you and very happy that you have adjusted to the post-transplant annoyances. I too have had more than my share of respiratory infections. It goes with the territory. But like you, I am very well indeed.
