Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
Hi All,
My 2nd year post transplant anniversary today and feel so blessed to get to this milestone relatively healthy. Cannot believe how distant that dreadful diagnosis appears back on 17 Sept 2013! The head of transplant's words kept me going when he stated that the chances of relapse at the 2 year post transplant mark falls to around 5%. I realise these are only statistics but he had 30+ years experience with BMT and SCT and I held on to those words as my goal and it bode me well. That and seeing my daughter transition into her teenage years and has now entered year 9 at high school, gaining straight 'Bs' and voicing an interest in nursing as her vocation. Apart from small issues such as thin hair, some aches and pains, all are very bearable and due to my twin sister as my donor, no nasty GVHD - life is so good :) Hopefully my story can inspire those just starting on their journey that there is light at the end of the tunnel and not everyone suffers horrendous side effects.

My oldest daughter is also a ninth grader. I am so grateful to almighty God for having three years since DX to raise my girls. Praying we both bounce our grand children on our knees.
