Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group

Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

It has been quiet here over the last few days. Hope that means that everyone is doing okay, and that you've got bigger and better things to be concerned with than leukemia! Eddie, I am wondering how the induction has been for you this time around. I am sure you are tackling it with everything you have. Cliff, hope you are completely done with the flu, yuck! What a lousy thing that is to deal with. Phil, is the thrush more manageable now? I so hope so. Andrea, I hope that recovery from your SCT is getting easier, especially as you approach day 100! Dave, you hanging in there? Miss your voice. Myra, how are you and David doing? I really hope that you are finding it easier now that you are finally at home again. Wondering how Hayley is doing now -- anxious to hear that she is in remission and that she is getting closer to being able to be home with her little boys! Lily, I hope that your worry is a little lighter, now, too! Twoboyz, I am thinking about you, too, and hoping that the grief that you've been feeling around the loss of your father is softened somehow as the weeks pass and you find comfort in the memories of the loving bond that you shared with him.

Thanks for asking, Robin. I think I have finally turned the corner with this annoying flu. Less coughing, less nose blowing and more stamina. It is beautiful today and I am definitely going to get out of the house.

You are truly remarkable! Thanks for including me in your long list of new friends. David and I came home yesterday and, after 31 days, it felt so good to sleep in the same bed with him. He is doing remarkably well; I am hopeful that this will bode well for him going forward. He gets depressed at times, but that is to be expected. Just being home, eating decent food and being surrounded by this "things" is the best medicine. I was sorry to hear about your dad's recent kidney issue and pray that it can be resolved and that he can proceed with the transplant. As I said in my previous post, I am keeping him and your family, as well as everyone else on the site, in my daily prayers. Please continue to keep us posted.

Robin: Yes -- am hanging in ... been sidetracked on some projects and short of time. Your new thread here has caught me up. Great to hear that Cliff is improving from the flu ... had me worried. His advice with regard to your dad's kidney blip on the radar was quite uplifting to me and hopefully to you and your dad. There is a point where he will stop worrying and realize just how great it is to be alive one more day. If his team says transplant is the best thing then by all means go for it. Most of the survivors on this leukemia forum have had (several are in the process of having) transplants. GvHD is not really a downside when you consider the alternative. It is possible that he can be up and running like many of the rest of us in just a month or so. Things should be looking bright. -- dave

Thank you so much for asking. Hayley is doing good. Today marks day 33 in the hospital but it should be any day. ANC is creeping up. Getting an echo done today because of high heart rate. Rbc hanging steady in the upper 20's but still getting a lot of platelets. They won't do another bmb until her counts recover a little more so we will make a trip back for that. They have found a 10 of 10 match already. Dr is thinking 1 consolidation round and hope to transplant in June. That was great news. Thanks again so much for thinking of her.

Shane -- I had a high heart rate for a while and afibs as well. It all clears up when the bod gets back to normal. But the echo thing is good. I just hated it when they put all that junk on me and made me wear a sensor and even oxygen for a while. Then whenever anything weird would happen they would come in like I was having a heart attack or something. But that goes with the turf ... chemo is some nasty stuff. She will get thru it OK -- we are praying for her. Take care -- dave
