Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
It has been a little over 2 years since my world was sent spinning out of control. August 3rd 2012 I was dx with AML and really didn't know what the future held. My doctor told me I had a 30 to 50 percent chance to make it to the two year mark. A few days later after results from my BMB came back, revealed I had a favorable type( INV 16). I really didn't know what that meant. Later I found out it meant everything. This type led me to a chemo only path.
I don't post very often but I visit this site every day. I post now to thank each and everyone on this site and the ones that have gone on ( Eddie, Andrea) for not only answering questions but also remaining positive and supportive. I feel a little guilty because some are still battling this monster and know I had it easy compared to most of you. I know I am not out of the woods by any means and will continue to visit. You guys mean the world to me and truly help me deal with the anxiety I still battle with today. Again, thanks and don't ever under estimate your words. They may mean alot to someone and you wouldn't know.

Praising Almighty God for the long awaited two year mark my Inversion 16 Brother!!!! You have personally helped me so many times as I've struggled with low platelets and bruising-that means so much! Making it to two years is a HUGE milestone and should be celebrated! Please know your positive outcome is an inspiration to all of us! I think we all struggle with AML envy from time to time. Meaning so and so counts are recovering faster or I wish I had there sub-type. When first DXd with Inversion 16, a gal on the floor at the same time was DXd with APL (the BEST type of AML to have with a 90% cure rate with arsenic treatment instead of Chemo). I coveted her APL, I truly did. Thanks for paving the way for me and always providing encouragement!
