Acromegaly Support Group
Acromegaly (from Greek akros "high" and megas "large" - extremities enlargement) is a hormonal disorder that results when the pituitary gland produces excess growth hormone (hGH). Acromegaly most commonly affects middle-aged adults and can result in serious illness and premature death. Join the group to discuss symptoms, diagnosis, and treatments.
Have an update for those who are interested. LOL Fun stuff! So my macroandenoma which had breached into my sphenoid sinus, it hasn't shrunk since last MRI.
It's only been 6 months however, more importantly IGF-1 has continued to lower, as I am now nearing biochemical remission of Acromegaly!!! This is fantastic and my Doctor's and Endo have been great.
I told them I am still feeling the symptoms of the disease; my Radiation Oncologist Dr. Brierley at Princess Margaret here in Toronto, he stated that after Radio Therapy, there are ripple 'humps or effects' on the brain... First and second waves I am experiencing... The syptoms of short term memory loss, dizziness, can pass/will pass and or may remain.
It was agreed that the effects of my medications, sandostatin etc and the radiation have worked together on the memory issues at this point.
I see him back in one years time for an MRI follow up. As my tumor is benign agressive classed, they want to monitor it.
Dr. Ezzat my Acromegaly and Endocrinology specialist at Toronto General, him and his assistant upped my Thyroxin significantly. Hopefully this will help with my weight loss as it has been trying and my sluggish, tiredness, fatigue.
Dynamic Testing - IGF-1 Blood Glucose Test
I have to complete this good ol' bad boy for the 4th time since being diagnosed in Feb 2011. They want to see what exactly is happening post Rad Therapy to my Pit Gland and/if I am in Pan Hypopituitarianism (Loss of all Pit Functions).
