I am sure I have read about this somewhere, but I noticed my taste and smell isn't what it was since I returned home. I didn't think it was that bad, however, I just ate a curry that I couldn't taste! Any idea how long to takes to return? (The taste that is, not the curry :-) )

I should add that I had my operation just over two weeks ago. Am I being impatient?

Well its early days for you, they told my daughter it could take a few months, but unfortunately for her, her taste and smell have never returned, her ops were two years ago. but if you can smell and taste a little, thats must be a good sign.

It took me several weeks for my sense of taste to come back to anywhere near normal. Be patient. It probably depends on how much damage they did in your nose while working. Spiegel, I had a friend who lost his sense of smell in a bad car accident, and it came back about four years later- so don't give up hope.

I just got my taste and smell back after 2 weeks post-op. But it's not like before, less intense I think. Hope it'll return back to normal soon.

Hi John, first thanks for the info on costs!!!! now!! my test came back and in perfect way after about 6 weeks. the smell took about a week or two.. looking at all the othger replys .. it is so individual. but do give yourself time.

Thanks for your comments. I didn't think that it would be permanent. But then I got to wondering... I can taste some things - a bit. I did think the food in hospital was a bit bland but I thought it might be because it was hospital food... it now seems that my sense of taste was to blame, at least partially!

I think my post-op taste and smell is definitely off. Either that or I'm just losing taste buds with age :-) I seem to like foods that have a lot of flavor now, and spicy stuff. And I have this weird smell in my nose sometimes too. It smells like smoke or something, but no none in my home smokes. I had surgery over 2 years ago, and a fat graft.

John this may sound really weird,but its been over a year since my surgury and the only taste that is messed up is, with onions. I have always loved them and I cook a lot with them but now I can't stand the way they smell or taste.I want to gag....
