I would be up for that.... it has been 3 weeks since I had surgery and I am noticing things already.. and not just me but friends and family as well. I am noticing a difference in my hands, feet, face and even my ankles are shrinking. I don't have any blood work scheduled for another 3 weeks but can't wait to find out the numbers because something is working....

I am scheduled for surgery in December. I'll post pics after. The pic I have up now is the most recent one of me (taken last month). What kind of changes can I expect to see?? My endo doc said nothing will change. That was depressing....But it sounds like he was wrong, which gives me hope. Do noses shrink???? :D Do voices go up an octave (mine has gotten very deeP)?

I think that's a great idea, some people have very subtle Acro features, but doctors should not rely on what they see before testing or dismissing us.

I'd be up for that. My surgery is two weeks from tomorrow.

I think our friends and family don't notice the acro symptoms when before they know about it because it's usually such a slow process. I noticed stuff but didn't know to be concerned about it. I thought it was getting older, gaining weight, genetics, whatever. I excused everything off myself. That's no excuse for doctors missing it though. Of course now I have doctors that when I say I have acro, they're like....Yes, I see that in you now. Whatever.

My endo says there won't be a lot of big changes because "bone won't ungrow" but I'm hoping he's wrong. We'll see.

Maybe I can have my nerd husband build a website or something where people can post before and after pictures and make it come up high in search engines with key words.

Wow! I love this idea. I have seen lots of changes. My friends tell me I look so different. I can still see some of the damage but I see a lot of improvement in nose, pores of my skin, hand & feet size. Before I looked swollen, but not now. I actually shrank in height....I'm about 1/2 inch shorter! I didn't need to be shorter since I was only 5'4". I'm interested in posting before & after pics.

I told all who know me off for not telling me that I was changing and looking odd.. They were polite.... Bull...... this is not friendship!!!

My endo asked me to bring him a photo from the befor for him and his students.. I was pleased with that. I know I am looking better but look all of you!!! we are changing any way so lets be positive and happy with the smalest positive change! celebrate it and invite & welcome more good changes.

While a lot of Doctors are great, they don't know everything... mine told me nothing would change and 3 weeks after surgery there is a noticable difference so don't let doctors discourage you. Most of these doctors don't even have patients with acro so how would they know what will change and what wouldn't.... I am living proof that change does happen like so many others out there, so don't give up hope, changes will happen.... this site has been a God sent for me and the support is just wonderful. I am forever thankful to have found it....

JaneyBell...you lost inches?? Sweet! I'm 6'3, so I could definitely afford to lose some! lol And if my nose would shrink too, that would be awesome! lol

So I just uploaded 5 photos. They were uploaded backwards for some reason, so start at the last photo. Amazing!! You know, I've noticed some changes, but until now I really hadn't noticed HOW much I've changed...and in such a short amount of time! Damn docs, if it occurred that fast it should have been noticed before now! Anyway....they're on my page if you are interested.

My nose did change a bit.....and my face became narrower. I think there's inflammation that goes away. I know that once the bones have changed, they won't correct themselves but when inflammation goes away, it helps.

I think that is a great idea. Although I'm not diagnosed, if I ever am, I'd be willing to post pictures publically. The first dr to mention Acro to me said, "You don't have ugly man's disease! It's not like your nose has grown, your rings don't fit and you're buying bigger shoes! (lol)" I cried. That's exactly why I was there.
However, I was neither a man nor ugly.

People/doctors need to know what Acro looks like in new onset, mild Acro, mixed hormone tumor w/Acro, etc, etc. Everyone is different so while the facial and exteremity changes tend to generally affect everyone - and most of the same changes occur - there's no 100% picture of a true Acro person that everyone fits.

There was research done in KY and a group was trying to create a software program that was able to take scanned pictures of people and determine whether they had Acro by using certain key facial indicators. However, people who were mild/new onset passed the test - and people who naturally had larger noses or eyebrow ridges were flagged falsely for possible Acro.

I'd love to see a commercial come about that says, "I...am the face of Acromegaly." and 4-5 people repeat this statement - all with different stages of facial changes. Then at the end it gives symptoms to look for and refers you to your doc if you have any symptoms.

Hope someone can pull a site together with JeriTX's idea. Keep us posted.

Also, I've mentioned before but when I first began researching Acro I was scared to death at the textbook photos I found on Google. But once I got into forums like this or read blogs like Trys, Alicia, AcroPrincess, etc - I had a whole new sense of hope because these people had Acro and they certainly were not ugly! Did they look different than they used to? Sure. But ugly? Not that I saw. That was very reasurring to me.
So a before dx, after dx and post surg picture site would be, imo, a site full of hope for a lot of people.

Insunshine: I Love that idea! Of having people saying that they are the face of acro. Because it is amazing how the only photos you can find are the worst of the worse! Which is so discouraging and depressing when you start researching what you having been diagnosed with! Also, does this affect woman more than men? It just seems that most of the posts I read are from women...
