What are the long term effects of Sandostatin on the body. Obviously, Sandostatin reduces IGF-1 levels in Acromegaly suffers like us, although there is the ever so common warning that the Octreotide can lead to gal stones. An increase in bile production in the gal bladder I believe.
How many of you have had gal stones, and how many of you believe your gal stones may be related to the Sandostatin?
Is there any other long term effects as evident as the gal stone formations?
On the bright side, I have just come back from an Acromegaly conference in Toronto with Specialist and his team who had recently come back from the Rome conference on Acromegaly and Endocrinology. Within 3-5 years Novartis may be releasing a pill form of Sandostatin! Yay! No more butt injections.

Weight gain

Extremely dry flaky skin
Extreme fatigue
Memory and concentration issues
Muscle and joint pain
Fragrance (soaps, perfume, shampoo) sensitivity
Metal sensitivity

I also have slight blood sugar issues I think, extra thirsty for a few days after injection.
I am on BP meds and if anything it now is too low.
After several yrs., my adenoma finally considerably reduced and I underwent surgery- it is the only actual cure. Although I won't know for awhile whether I am so fortunate- need to get hormone test after a few months, and I know of people whose disorder returned after surgery. I am hopeful, and relieved to have had the op. with the caveat that patients get several opinions, do research into potential surgeons, and make certain that the surgeon des at least 50 such ops per year!
