Well gang it's been ages since I've been back........I've let things get a little too hectic I guess. Health wise doing good........no lasting nerve damage with the shingles and save for a few small blister scars, you would never know I had them........hopefully, there will not be another occurrence Sept. 09's blood work came back great....IGF-1 level down to 74, but the Jan. 10 results came back elevated back up to 142, Doctor wants to hold off and see how April's test come out, before we do anything else..........still have the daily fatigue and joint pains, but they are manageable as long as I use common sense. Have accepted the fact that my stamina isn't what it was and most likely never will be.... so I just adjust accordingly. Still on the dreaded monthly LAR shot and will be for life according to my doctor.........I so look forward to that 6 gauge needle driven into my butt........I swear I think the nurse rather enjoys it herself.
So there is hope .... we can control this beast , even if it is a daily battle.
Sorry I've been missing in action...........my father passed away in November from a five year long battle with COPD and heart problems, so I've been rather busy helping my mom rearrange her home and the finances. We're still knee deep in the renovation on our home (I'm doing it all) and have picked up some small side jobs doing home maintenance repairs and renovation work in our neighborhood..............had to so something as the economy just seems to be getting worse and the prospects in my profession aren't looking to improve any until 4th quarter of 2010 or later.......if at all. Anyways, I'm not holding my breath for it and rather like doing these small jobs..........I can work at my own pace and that's the key.
I've accepted that when I'm fatigued or the pain gets too much, it's time to stop.........I'm good for about 4-5 hours. I've accepted there are days where I just can't do much at all and I'm okay with that. I do tend to write down measurements and task more now, as I can't seem to remember them for long.
Making plans for spring time fly fishing trips to northern AR and middle TN and a trip to the Brandy Wine Valley area on the iron horse to visit the home place of one of my most favorite artist........Andrew Wyeth. In addition, I've set a goal to complete 15 paintings this year..... we'll need art on the walls when we get done with the renovation work.
One thing this beast has taught me is that I needed to re-evaluate my priorities and make some changes........not only to adjust to my new limitations, but to have a better and more meaningful life..........for years my motto has been "pain and heartaches aren't options in life, misery is a choice we make".........well I've come up with a new one to go with that........."well being and happiness is a mindset that we forge with daily poundings of directed focus on positive aspects of our lives..........." I refuse to let this thing get the best of me..........when I die, I want it carved on my monument........".He left, not defeated and timid........he slid into the grave, bruised and used up, screaming WOW what a ride."
Happy Sunday folks........it's good to be alive.

Welcome back! I like your new motto. I have decided to take a positive approach this year. It will be a stressful one as Mum is going through chemo and daughter is completing last year of high school, but I have something positive to look forward to next year. In March 2011 I am going on a 14 day cruise to the Fiji Islands with 3 friends. After years of just dealing with one day at a time, it is great to have something positive to focus on.
