sorry not able to answer you there was a discussion a while back on teeth ..so you might have to did back a bit see if theres anything from an member a while ago..for myself Ive not had problems my teeth and jaw didnt change ..biggest hugs birchy

I think I may just call my dental office one of these days too and ask them about it.. they're super friendly there and I'm sure they wouldn't mind giving more some more details.

Best of luck. I can only say that I used to have a slight overbite (I didn't like the idea of braces 35 years ago) which acromegaly "corrected" for me.

Hi there, I'm new to this group -- so happy to find you! Curious if you've had any success in getting insurance to cover reconstructive treatment to jaw/teeth? I was denied coverage after learning I was not a good candidate for jaw surgery and tried for a different approach with my dentist/orthodontist using restoratives and braces to fix my missing bite. Medical won't cover because they say it's dental in nature -- but if it's need because Acromegaly caused it, then that sure sounds medical to me. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. :)

I suffered from a pretty severe under bite which was also crooked, not only preventing my front teeth from connecting, but creating a big gap on one side as well. Underwent my surgery in 2003 to remove the pituitary tumor and waited a few years to make sure that levels stayed stablewhich they have. Started the process in 2007 by speaking with an oral surgeon and was sent me to an orthodontist to get my teeth aligned in preparation for surgery. Underwent the jaw surgery in 2009 involving both the upper and lower jaw. Basically moved the upper out to match the bottom and straightened out the lower. A six hour operation. Despite the facial numbness afterwards, this was much more of a painful recovery than the original surgery to remove the tumor. My jaw was banded shut for about 6 weeks and the numbness subsided over the next 6. The roof of my mouth is still has a bit of feeling lossnot bad, but I do notice it when eating hard candy and other stuff like that. Pretty satisfied with the end result. Even though my teeth shifted a bit more than they anticipated after the surgery it is still like a 100% improvement. Nice to be able to use my front teeth properly. I ended up having to switch oral surgeons due to insurance changes and the doctor that performed the procedure was both and oral surgeon and an MD. Although at the time I thought it a hassle ended up feeling more comfortable because of this.

Forgot to add----Attempted getting the jaw surgery covered wth medical due to acromegaly..no dice!

I want to have it done also. My friend back in high school had it done and she said it was kind of painful. The only thing I'm worried about is that I breathe better through my mouth. And my husband likes to push my buttons a lot so I wouldn't be able let him have it. Haha. Guess I'll just have to get a lot of notebooks so I can write it all down. Best of luck to u.

Hi, i'm much the same as Edashel. With a crooked underbite :(

I was diagnosed with a pit tumour and acro in July this year. Had pit surgery four weeks ago at Salford Royal in Manchester, UK.

Surgery was deemed a success but tumour may have invaded cavernous sinus/bone which may explain why my GH and IGF1 are still higher than expected. Back at the Christie this coming week for more blood tests and to see the Professor.

I was told that once the acro is under control i could have surgery to sort my bite. The sooner the better please :)
