Thankyou for this link...I decided to cut out sugars..I seemed to be craving them to much..oh boy day one...really bad headache..I flared at a friend..day three..coments of looking very tired...day four..this one was a hard day was trying to find hidden sweet things behind packets...day five..I looked a mess..dark rings around eyes..looked like a zombie had no energy...day six looking better but still feeling drained...someone who cut out carbs said they was like this a week..reading youre link its got to be worth cutting down this addiction....but its tough and best not to do a cold turkey...

Thank you for posting this article. My husband was just diagnosed with acromegaly and had surgery this past Friday. We were vegan for three years and then last August began adding back in grass fed, organic meats and dairy. Looking back the time we started adding animal protein is the same time that his acromegaly symptoms really kicked into high gear. I am trying hard to research the best diet for him but am finding conflicting research. If you have any other acromegaly diet related information, I'd love to read it! Thanks!

Hi. Welcome to the group. I'm in the Bay Area. If you go back to page 5 and view "Revisting Diet/IGF-1 Relationship" you will find interesting articles there. The information regarding diet is confusing because the vast majority of studies that have been done are funded to find out how to have consumers buy more of a product than to study the effects the ingredients have systemically on an individual. Furthermore most doctors have very little nutritional training as part of their schooling. I too was a vegetarian and had my doctor tell me to add meat. IMO, after studying diet extensively for the past few years I believe that a pescatarian (vegetarian with fish) is the best with limited dairy (inflammatory food), limited white carbs, no sugar (very little fruit too since Acromegaly causes insulin problems), and lots of good fats. My twin sister (who has brain cancer) has taken it a step further and sees a naturopath doctor in the LA area. He has tested her blood and seen what foods are inflammatory for her specifically. Xylitol (in gum and toothpaste), broccoli, and chicken were an example of some of her triggers. She avoids the foods that are inflammatory to her body, so she can keep her immune system in optimal balance. Hope some of this helps.

Here is another article why it may be important to limit dairy/milk. Not only does cow's milk contain a large amount of sugar but the cows are also treated with a growth hormone that is similar to ours. The studies on the effects on human consumption and raising our IGF-1 are "inconclusive". But some say it raises it significantly. I know diet wont cure us from our tumors, but I'm going to help myself as much as I can.

My amazing neighbor who is a nurse practitioner just sent me this website. There is a tiny bit on acromegaly, but a lot on IGF-1 and cancer, as well as Diabetes. Thought I'd pass it along. I have spent hours reading at watching videos, it's awesome!
