Congratulations Suzanna! I think the reason why your doctor wants you to discontinue pegvisomant during your pregnancy is because the drug hasn't been studied long enough to know what effects it has on the fetus. Good luck with your pregnancy!

oh Suzanna you sound in shock..Im with Mish they havent studied the drug long enough..My drug when I was first on it ..I read the leaflet ..but now more things are coming in one I didnt know mine lowers bloodpressure..this was not in anything when I first took drug...

Congrats! I've been trying to get preggo for over 18 months now. I'm also on pegvisomant. It's safe to take while ttc. But they told me I would have to stop taking it once conception takes place.

I've decided that I'm comfortable demanding that they let me take it, IF it becomes necessary. Since stopping it I've had some finger swelling, but nothing too serious. I have my first OB appointment on Monday, so I'll see what she thinks.

We've finally gotten pregnant too. Due April 2nd. :) I had stopped the Somavert while trying, but was still on Sandostatin daily injections. Once we got the positive I stopped the Sando also. To be honest the first trimester was pretty rough with the exhaustion. It felt like back before I was diagnosed, but I stayed off the drugs and as soon as I hit week 13 I felt tons better. I was in talks with my Drs the whole time about going back on the Sando because I was so tired, but I'm glad I stuck through it because I'm now in week 25 and still haven't gone back on.

Although the Somavert works better for me too, there really is no data regarding pregnancy and it's use. There is a bit about using Sando successfully, so I felt safer about taking that risk. In the end my Drs proposed I actually go on the old-time drug Bromocriptine as that has been shown to be totally safe during pregnancy. I was hesitant to do that because Bromocriptine is actually used also for stopping lactation and I am hoping to nurse, but on the flip side there is NO data about Sando and nursing other then they know it's secreted in breast milk so they don't recommend it.

I spent the few years we were trying to get pregnant and the first few months after we are looking for as much information as I could, so if you have any other questions just let me know! :)

Thanks, kitty - I'm alost 6 weeks today, just had my first appointment, and actually saw a heartbeat! It was amazing!

That being said, my hands and feet are already swelling, my joints are starting to hurt and my face seems to be swelling...I think if this continues after the first trimester I'll lobby to start the somavert again.
