Just out of interest, is this as a result of acro or side effects of any medication that you might be on?

It's both. Somavert makes me look and feel pregnant almost immediately that happened but I've battled weight for so many years and acromegaly makes it worse. And because of the surgery my risk for diabetes will go down tremendously, heart disease and even cancers that being overweight are more likely to occur.

I will report my experiences as they happen but am going to Las Vegas for surgery. My hope is that I can be a beacon of light in my experience and able to help others on their journey.

I had gastric bypass surgery in 2005. I had no idea at the time that I had acromegaly. I just knew that I was diabetic and losing weight was impossible. After surgery, I was no longer diabetic and many of my acro symptoms seemed to improve. When my acromegaly was diagnosed they considered my case mild because my IGF 1 was only 313 (range was 50-194 for normal). However, I can assure you that it was not mild prior to my surgery. My feet went from
a 7 C to an 8 1/2 EEE, my nose got bigger, I developed major bags under my eyes, and my bottom teeth were separating. I had surgery and then had some plastic surgery (to remove the bags, botox to lift the brow ridge, facial peels, braces, etc). I think that is why no one was picking up on what was going on with me. Anyway, I would be curious if anyone else noticed the acromegaly improving after gastric bypass.

Warmcommu, I just started looking into bariatric surgery. I am 5 years post Acro-surgery and taking Somavert. I hate this belly fat! Can you give me any advise about the process? I have insurance, but I am a full time student so I have very little income. I have not seen a physician or a nutrition counselor about weight loss, so I don't know if I am even a candidate. I am wondering how it all went for you and how difficult it was to get doctors to sign off on the surgery. How do you feel now that you have done it? Hope all is well!

Hi. I am in the process of looking at the "sleeve" bariatric surgery because of the weight gain and still high appetite even after being in remission. Has anyone had the sleeve surgery and if so was it worth it and do you feel better? I still stay tired all the time and many aches and pains from all the joint problems, etc. I have started this journey and have seen a Bariatric physician. Thank you. Was wondering how warmcommunique is doing now since her surgery?

You should research ghrelin. A hormone that can be affected by gastic sleeve surgery and help with acro.
