Wow, sounds like you are doing really well John, the biggest thing about my surgery was the nose packing I found that a pain, but like you wanted to go home.
Enjoy your time off,it will go fast and before you know it you'll be back amongst it again, good time to get interested in a hobby you have always been thinking of or catch up on some reading.

Excellent report! I spent my time on Ancestry.com compiling my family tree. It was a lot of fun, and something I'd never given any though to before. You might consider it.

Well, I have been home a few days now, and I feel like I have slowed down a bit (or it could be that I am trying to do too much). Headaches are now more obvious than they were when I was in hospital (when I needed little or no painkillers), but I have learned to time the codeine to best effect (before the head really starts throbbing, not after).

I was glad to be able to avoid nasal packing in the hospital, as I had heard that it was the worst bit of the procedure.

My right nostril is still bunged up with congealed blood, but I am able to breathe pretty well when lying down (which, after being diagnosed with mild sleep apnoea before the op, is nice). I am also sleeping more solidly than I did before surgery. I don't have postural headaches, e.g. head hurting more when being upright, so that is good news on the CSF front.

Only 5.5 weeks to go...

It's okay to slow down a bit John, you've just had a major surgery mate, you were lucky that you didn't have packing, although when mine was removed I remembered feeling like I had, had a nose job for a short while, my nose appeared smaller. LOL
Your doing the countdown, sounds like you seriously need a distraction, Jeri's suggestion sounds like a great idea if you are into your family tree.
Glad to hear things are still okay, the headaches are due to the frame that would've been holding your head still during surgery, I had them as well, they have to have it so tight to avoid any movement, they should stop in time.
Take it easy.

Good news John!!! and yes as the others said take it really easy, after all it was a neuro surgery and you want to create a complete and positive recovery. We each had a different experience when we had our opp' and you had it just great. Make the most of it. Also rest and when you do visualize a white light coming in to your head and the light is healing calming relaxing. And stay with that for a good few min' each time.

You're doing so well John and your post must have reassured all of us who have not yet had surgery. How did you avoid the nasal packing -is that something you asked about before surgery or was it because you didn't need it. It must be difficult to take it easy when you're used to being active, but your body will definitely tell you if you're overdoing it. Keep up the excellent recovery rate!

No, I was surprised when I came round that I could breathe (although dripping a bit of blood!) , and they told me that they managed without giving me packing. I do think this is less usual though.

I just came downstairs after a two-hour afternoon nap, so I am learning to take it easier. It is amazing how a walk around the block can tire me out so easy.

I am so glad it's going better than expected...just remember to take it EASY!! Even if you do feel good easy does it. I hope your recovery continues to go well and your follow up gives you excellent news as well. Thanks for keeping us posted!!

I dont think weve met yet so a hi from me.I am glad the surgery went well and these other members are right take it easy no quick four mile runs lol JK.Swampy on here now he is someone who dosent like to keep still for long but he did some models with his sons brill stops a bit of boredom but also mind is kept focused and when you get tired you can come back to it and youve achieved something getting model completed.My son whose seventeen loves games but we did some origarmi paper folding in case I didnt spell that right and made this swan got it off the internet the pattern its brill everyone goes how did you do that it looks so complicated but it was easy once you got the hang of the paper folds.But hey if you get bored mentioning no names but one or two members on here need keeping under control maybe you could keep an eye on them oh ROFLMAO.Seriously take care wishing you well in the after the op cant wait to turn off the TV and do something less boring instead did you ever see that programme.Bouncing out lol Jokeyx

Well, this recovery thing seems to be going quite well. I am no longer napping during the day, I feel better just about every day. Today I got a mile's walk in and I didn't feel I had to rest up right afterwards. I do get a bit of a dry mouth/nasal passages during the night, and this can bring on a slight headache, but nothing that needs treatment. I haven't touched painkillers for four or five days. And my rear end and fingers have shrunk.

My blood pressure is also WAY down from where it was before the op, I am no longer getting 160-170/95-115, as I was just before I went into hospital, now it varies between 120/75 and 135/90 (the very top it has been the last few days). MInd you, I am still on two high dose antihypertensives (candesartan and amlodipine), but as the amlodipine requires me to take a laxative to keep other things going (it was a temporary measure), I should be able to taper down the dose and/or come off that soon (seeing my GP in a couple of weeks about that).

As the hypertension was the reason I got screened for acromegaly in the first place, I class this, tentatively, as a result.

OK, so I still have to have to do my growth hormone day curve in the hospital in a few weeks' time, but I can celebrate a little.

Yeah!!!!! So glad your recovery is going so well. You're seeing lots of good results. My fingers shrunk but my rear end didn't, I'm jealous. I could stand to lose a few inches in that area. So happy for you and sending good wishes that you'll continue to see good results. JaneyBell
