Reading this from Robert Burney's website.....boy, can I relate to this......so much of what he says makes sense..
"In my codependence I learned to be enmeshed with other people - to not have healthy boundaries that told me who "I" was, and that I was a separate person from them. I had to become hyper-vigilant in childhood. I learned to focus on trying to interpret what my parents and other authority figures were feeling in order to try to protect myself. As an adult, I unconsciously tried to manipulate people - by trying to be what they wanted me to be if I wanted them to like me, or trying to be either intimidating or invisible if that seemed the safest course. I had no real concept of being responsible for my own feelings because I had learned that other people were responsible for my feelings - and vice versa. I had to learn to start defining myself emotionally as separate from other people in order to start learning who I was". ROBERT BURNEY
That's where I am at right now....in the process of defining myself...learning who I am...what I like, dislike. Haven't really EVER done that....not an easy thing really...but it's time to do it. :):):)

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
Over explaining why I don't want to do something or don't like something was something I really suffered from.
It was as if i was always excusing my likes and dilsikes if they were different from others. I too strived to fit in - to feel safe. Can still be caught with that one - had it at work the other day. I stood out over something (in a good way) but wanted the ground to swallow me up.
I feel blessed to have a program that encourages me to value myself and not people please and to be true to myself. I used to think it was selfish - it's not. It is treating myself with the same love , care and compassion I give to others. Also knowing, my HP wants me to be true to myself.
Like I say i can still fall into old traps but it is all about awareness i guess and learning and growing from when I do.
Having the courage to be me.
Thank you for sharing that.
with love

Even today I'm still struggling with who I really am. It's frustrating at times, because this chameleon persona has been how I lived my life for so long. But I'll keep on keepin' on...
Thanks for sharing this. Looks like this fellow's website is worth having a look at.
