Something I need to share because this absolutely discusses me. My husband is and alcoholic, yet has never had a DWI. Mainly because I am always the DD when we go out, but when he is alone - he will drink and drive. And also literally - with an open bottle the majority of the time. February 2012 He crashed his car into the ditch about a mile away from our home. He called me to pick him up. I got out of bed and went and got him. We came home and debated on what we should do. After about half an hour we decided to go back to the car and it actually started. He drove it home. The next morning he called a tow and the insurance. Luckily he keeps full coverage on his vehicles. The insurance totaled his car and a week or two later they cut a nice check for him to purchase another vehicle.

January, 2013. Puts his 'new' car (Cadillac) in the ditch again. (11 months after the first crash) Close to spot where he totaled his last vehicle. This time, someone happened to be driving by and gave him a ride home. I was in bed of course, but he came in to bed and told me he put his car in the ditch again. He came to bed. A few minutes later the police were knocking at the door. My husband just said "We are sleeping." So they left. The next morning my husband called a tow and met them at the car. The police were also there. They asked my husband if he had been drinking. He of course said no. But - I bet if they would have given him a breathalyzer that morning, there would have been alcohol still in his system. But they didn't and they let him go. A couple weeks later, he got a nice check from our insurance because the car was totaled (again). He now drives a nice brand new 2013 Ford F150. How's that for drinking and driving?

I have contacted MADD and my local police to 'warn' them about him. I have to wait until the crime is actually occurring and then I can call. Well it isn't like I follow him around. I have only contacted one local police department because I fear other departments/sheriffs will not keep me anonymous and we live in a small town. They are under no obligation to keep police reports to themselves and I am afraid of me contacting other authorities, my husbands family will find out and there will be retaliation.
