Actually, while I have stopped watching sexually charged movies, sitcoms do not bother me. Frankly, they have nothing to do with me or my life, so why should their sexual innuendos bother me?

I cannot live with blinders on so I have learned to tune it out when I see it or hear because again it has nothing to do with me.

Perhaps the crux of my post is simple: Celibacy is supposed to take away our self importance and makes us more self aware of our own selfish attitudes and self centered lives.

As for the unrealistic aspect of those shows, it is expected, no sitcom is based on reality if it were, it would not be funny. However, we cannot be so down on ourselves to actually think we could never be with anyone remotely appealing.

Once I was told that there are two ways to attract someone: 1) Learn to be alone and enjoy it and 2) Be the person you want to attract. Those are the best tips I ever got.

Mind you, I have not found anyone yet (recently it did not work out but I did not spend months wasting my time) worth my time but I am not upset about it. I am enjoying my time whether someone shows up or not.

I think what your experiencing is more common than you think. If there's something that makes someone uncomfortable, they usually try to avoid it. Don't be so hard on yourself because of this. If you enjoy The Big Bang Theory, keep watching it, but maybe you could try changing the channel during scenes that make you uncomfortable or tempted. Maybe that could work out for you.

i actually do do that. there seems to always been some random sex or sexual content scene in the show for no reason. i assume that its probably to bring more viewers, since "sex sells" but its actually driving me away and making me less interested in the show.

but its also not just that show its just about every show on tv. everything is over saturated with "sex" these days

I've thought this too, like that Hot Pockets commercial. Today I was walking and had the thought "sex isn't a problem for anyone who doesn't see it as a problem." Not very epic, a little condescending too, but very simple logic. This world wasn't created for me and although I think it should be (jk) doesn't cater to my needs or wants either. Look at it this way, your enlightened to know it is bothering you, and as the viewer you have the power to turn it off.

I have noticed a trend trying to sell the sexiness as normal when obviously it is borderline "too much".

The attractiveness of sex to earn viewers, although a little baseless and not very original, is only a problem for me when it triggers or starts up my own remorse, self-hate, and guilt. Funny you say this but my desperation to not witness sex appeal had me contemplating moving to a country in the mid-east! It had nothing to do with anything but a burka (I think that is what it is called) covers the woman providing a safe guard from gazing and wondering like a fool. I had to come to the conclusion that sex is here to stay and many people see it as a sign of the times rather than anything amoral.

It's not just movies and TV shows; it's books as well. I love to read and really appreciate a good story, but run into sex scenes there, too. If I read through them I end up rolling my eyes a lot. The other choice is to skip over them, and I've done that a lot, too. It's everywhere but like Wolf said, you can't live life wearing blinders.

One thing I've found that helps and is enjoyable is writing. I get to create all the characters, I get to make up the storylines, I get to say what goes on and what doesn't go on. That's a very empowering thing! Maybe it makes me a control freak, but I figure WHATEVER WORKS.

I know what you mean. I love Big Bang Theory but the characters do seem to be way more focused on sex and the tone of the show has changed since they all started having relationships. I mainly watch the discovery channel, history channel, sports, crime shows and reruns of shows that were popular while I was growing up despite not having sex poured into every scene. :) Unfortunately sex sells, the images on TV will only get more explicit as time goes by. It might help to search for new shows even if it doesn't seem like something that would interest you. I've discovered I like Bizarre Foods, its a bit on the gross side at times but that's easier to deal with than the sex scenes.
