I watch a lot of sermons on television and one of the big subjects that comes up is tithing. Sometimes it just comes across as a scam when they start on about tithing, but that is another subject. Anyway I always feel bad when they bleat on about tithing because as someone with an extremely limited income giving away 10% is near impossible. It makes me feel really bad about myself. Does it really matter if we give 10% or not?? Also does it matter where we give our money? Do we have to give it to a church or is it okay to give it to other worthy causes such as an animal shelter?

If you can afford to give any amount and want to go ahead. I haven't been to a church in a long time. So I haven't given money to a church or charity. I do have a very strong belief in God. I think of something I read in the Bible. Not a qoute in my own point. No human made structure can house God. God to me is all around me. Yes churches are nice and the fellowship of common believers is nice. If you are not able to go to church like I am. Or not able to give money like I am. That is all ok. What matters is you believe and you read the Bible and pray. That is what makes one Holy. That is what brings you close to God. I hope I have helped you.

If we give I think if you are a member of a church you should give it some money to help pay the pastor and the utility bills and such, but I also think it's ok to give to other charities of our choice
If you can't afford to give because of a fixed low income then don't worry about not giving. If you feel bad, then give 10.00 somewhere. true ministries appreciate whatever they get.
This is MY personal belief only..but I think we can 'give' in many ways..financially, and others ways. Like to those in need or do help spread the word.
I'll be honest..I don't give as much as I should. I also believe that when giving..if we give to those in need and might even say, I do this as a Christian, that is wonderful, too. Just my opinion. I do feel we should give as our hearts tell us and as we can.

As seen in the scriptures above tithing is a commandment. I have a limited income. I pay my tithes first before I pay any other bills. Once a month I give a generous fast offering. I also donate to dog shelters. God has blessed me with an income and promises that when I pay tithes I will be blessed. This for me is NOT optional. God will provide more than I can ever imagine and He has. I have a full pantry of food with a six month supply...all my bills are paid on time and I still have money left in the month for anything I want or need.
Question: "What does the Bible say about Christian tithing? Should a Christian tithe?"
Answer: Many Christians struggle with the issue of tithing. In some churches tithing is over-emphasized. At the same time, many Christians refuse to submit to the biblical exhortations about making offerings to the Lord. Tithing/giving is intended to be a joy and a blessing. Sadly, that is sometimes not the case in the church today.
Tithing is an Old Testament concept. The tithe was a requirement of the law in which all Israelites were to give 10 percent of everything they earned and grew to the Tabernacle/Temple (Leviticus 27:30; Numbers 18:26; Deuteronomy 14:24; 2 Chronicles 31:5). In fact, the Old Testament Law required multiple tithes which would have pushed the total to around 23.3 percent, not the 10 percent which is generally considered the tithe amount today. Some understand the Old Testament tithe as a method of taxation to provide for the needs of the priests and Levites in the sacrificial system. The New Testament nowhere commands, or even recommends, that Christians submit to a legalistic tithe system. Paul states that believers should set aside a portion of their income in order to support the church (1 Corinthians 16:1-2).
The New Testament nowhere designates a percentage of income a person should set aside, but only says it is to be “in keeping with income” (1 Corinthians 16:2). Some in the Christian church have taken the 10 percent figure from the Old Testament tithe and applied it as a “recommended minimum” for Christians in their giving. The New Testament talks about the importance and benefits of giving. We are to give as we are able. Sometimes that means giving more than 10 percent; sometimes that may mean giving less. It all depends on the ability of the Christian and the needs of the church. Every Christian should diligently pray and seek God’s wisdom in the matter of participating in tithing and/or how much to give (James 1:5). Above all, all tithes and offerings should be given with pure motives and an attitude of worship to God and service to the body of Christ. “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7).
