need to have 2 years sober to do 12 step work , but will do in 6 months, thanks for suggestion though, sorry was in bad mood earlier, feel bit better now.

Hi Alice, I have heard about this two year thing before but it is not actually a part of the programme. Different sponsors tell us different things and different groups have different philosophies.

For instance, I started doing Step 12 work as soon as I had formally gone through the rest of the programme with my sponsor.

It the rule in my group, it makes sense to me, so i dont mind.

I find it incredibly irresponsible for these kinds of 'rules' to exist in groups. The guidleines for AA in Great Britain sets no such time limit.

The way in which we stay sober is through our HP and intensive works with other alcoholics, not sitting around meetings for two years getting a free ride. No criticism of you here Alice, but your group are doing you no favours at all here!! You just have no idea what you are missing!

The longer you are sitting around having no responsibility for message carrying the harder it will be when it's their time for you to start.

You know when you have nothing to do at work and you're bored out of your skull??? Then you finally get some work to do and you just can't be arsed to do it? Same effect!

Pity you can't find a group which is fulfilling it's primary purpose - you would be having a brilliant time out there 12th stepping, helping another alkie to save their lives - what a shame!

Again I have been aroundfor awhile in the US and never heard such a thing.

I am living Step 11 for the most part today. Have yet to see where I have been wrong as my interactions have been smooth all day. Did ask God to remove a few things while driving through the city earlier today.

And, got a call from a sponsee who I asked I call her later to talk, so Step 12 will be happening later.
