From my exp. it took time but well worth it. What I had to do to achieve is, is by accepting the fact who I am, taken direction and working the steps until I could start living them. Priceless

Did you know there is a mountain in Australia called Mount Buggery? That is certainly one I dont want to encounter on my journey but each to their own I suppose.

I never believed in Karma or Dharma before I started working the steps but now I see that I am essentially in control of my own feelings.

When I practice spiritual principles such as humility and benevolence good feelings somehow come back to me in the form of serenity and joy. That is why I use the formula in my signature:

Humility + Benevolence = Serenity

Its not just a slogan, it is a spiritual axiom. The only caveat is I must detach from the outcome.

I sometimes people say in meetings that they want their life to be flat and even and they draw an imaginary line in the air, then some smartass tells them that flatlining is DEAD.

I try for gentle undulation where at all possible, but what would we know about the world if no one climbed mountains or explored the depths of the ocean?

I may be wrong but what I think G means is that life's peaks and valleys appear to be rolling hills as we have learned new ways of coping, attitudes have changed, and perception of these same ups and downs is quite different.

As individuals.....the circumstances in our lives can be quite different. We may health problems or financial problems, but whatever the situation......life is life and what matters most is one's ability to cope, grow, and overcome these seemingly handi-caps.

Some may say that God doesn't give one more than one can handle but really this is a half truth. The whole truth is God doesn't give one more than one and God cannot handle together. This I believe is the spiritual aspect of the program at work.

The program of AA, steps and traditions have definately given me the opportunity to work at this. Life is so much different than it was. Recovery in all that life brings is an attitude of gratitude when we are able to see each situation as an opportunity instead of a burden.

Thanks Ree I really related to your share, and believe the same. There are things in life directly and indirectly out of our control. I am not a God's will believer, I believe my Higher Power gave me free will and choices and does not pick and choose or interfere in our decisions. But I do feel that by believing and not doing the things I use to do my life does have more valleys and hills, rather than roller coaster rides.

And yes I know what buggery means and would not want to travel that mountain either..LOL

Today the ups are not so high and the valleys are no so deep. And each day brings the two closer together. Once though sobriety was like a ferriswheel. Up at the top the air is fresh, down on the bottom is the sh** of life we must go through. But today it is peaks and valleys. Love the up, hate the down. But, like I said, they are closer together each day.

Did anyone notice that nothing grows on mountain peaks, just rocks and snow. Only when in the valleys do I find the food I need to grow.
