Hello everyone-
I had a wonderful AA experience last night that I want to share.
I was out and about in my community yesterday and ran into an old drinking buddy. He asked how people were at "The Pub" and I stated I didn't frequent it anymore, but gave no further information. He then stated that he didn't either, as he was in recovery and had a bit over a year sober and was secretary for a local meeting on Wed. SHOCK!! I then shared that I too was in recovery and was a secretary at different meeting, so we invite each other to our meetings.
I then went to my home group noon meeting and there were a few ladies there who were talking about isolation. Long story shorter, the two ladies and I ended up going out to dinner, then we went to my other friends meeting. I had not attended this meeting before, as I had heard bad stories about it.
It turned out to be a great meeting...I bumped into a few more old drinking buddies and we were able to share our experience, strength and hope and there was a wonderful speaker as well, whose words touched my soul. And, my friends got to socialize, where they would have just stayed home alone. We also had a few people interested in our home group as well.
The moral of this story is...sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone, even if you think you're doing OK where you are at. And take someone with you too...because you never know what you might get out of a new experience. I felt good knowing I had helped out these other woman buy inviting them to a new meeting and I now have another network of AA friends.
Peace and be well all.

There is a wealth of information at different meetings. It was important for me to have a home group, just as important to attend (for me) other meetings. I'm not a stranger at any meetings. Good for you Maat!

Yes, a good example of why we should get out of our comfort zone and I love going to new or different meetings. I know people often pass their opinion along. Until I have had an experience myself I cannot rely just on word of mouth, the actual experience brings me the truth.

Oh you're post made me smile K. That's really cool, I haven't "run into" any old drinkin buddies yet, but I'm sure I will in time. I need to venture out to different meetings I'm told but haven't done it yet. Your post inspires me to though! :) Thanks for sharin-love ya!
