Now that I can see more clearly, I see it was my ego in the way indeed! I was right in the way I was feeling at first, but others were right in the way I needed to get off my high horse and get over it. That it just doesn't matter as much as I was trying to make it.
This might not be Exactly what you are saying here, but I get what you're saying, and it's good to be reminded of this Ego of mine that I wasn't seeing.
Thanks for sharing this truth. (o;
Well, we picked up the newspapers one morning about a dozen years ago and there he was, right on page 1. Our beloved Chuck was a complete fraud. He hadn't conned anyone in AA out of anything, but he had faked everything else, including alcoholism and cancer, to run a sympathy scam and bilk his church and his employer, a car dealer, out of a total of two million dollars. His wife finally figured out what he was doing and called the cops. Slam-dunk case and he got 15-20 years. And even though he's been a guest of the State and out of circulation ever since, I still hear people quoting him and telling how inspired they were by that honest and wonderful guy with cancer. What was his name? Is he still alive? Oh, you know the one...
I also have come to believe that if another person's opinion is driving you batty, then that is about you and your life experience...not them and their opinion. There is a saying that used to drive me crazy in early sobriety, but that I have come to rely on: 'If you can spot it, you got it.' In other words, if someone else's intolerance is upsetting you, then you probably have your own issue around intolerance to look at.
Tolerance is something I work on daily.
When we realize that we have a fairly large brain compared to all the other animals we must remember that we use only a fraction of it and for most of us that is a blessing in disguise.
If you understand what I'm trying to get at then you are smarter than me and most certainly sicker than I think we are.
In my home group a few years back we had a " golden slipper" type who talked program better than Bill and Bob probably did. He just didn't live it.
He was a binger and he plan drunks for weeks never tipping off we his friends and sometimes newcomers would seemingly slip in the wake of his drunks.
It rattled us all and it hurt.
Eventually he put a few years together though.
