.... do people who don't need the big book, program, spiritual experience, higher power to stay sober go to AA?
The big book explains the alcohol problem that AA/the program was designed to address but these people do not seem to have that problem. They therefore do not need that solution.
It worries me when I go to meetings that are predominantly made up of these people. There is no solution shared. Newcomers are lead to believe that the program, higher power etc are not necessary for sobriety which is really scary to me.
I know people will quote trad 3 "desire to stop drinking" to avoid having to consider this but for me trad 3 was put in place to make sure no one who needed it was excluded from AA based on factors other than alcohol. It was not because anyone should go to AA regardless of their problem.
A lot of fuss is made about not assuming that AA is the solution for everyone. I believe this is covered in the big book where it is clearly described the type of alcoholic that AA will work for. As an AA member I am often accused of thinking that everyone who has a problem with alcohol needs to go to AA. I dont think that at all. I dont think that everyone with an alcohol problem has the same problem and i think that we should look for the solution that best fits our problem. This is not me judging peoples problem, it seems to be fact based on all the people I have met and the problems they describe.
Why when the accusation is that too many people say that AA is the only way is it so unpopular to imply that AA is not the right place for everyone?

I don't get it.
At some point their continued drinking, or dry-drunks, caught up with them and they had to start over with a honest program. Some of them turned into the good-old-timers they were pretending to be initially.
Could a moderator delete these duplicate posts?
