All true "buttt" who may be leading a horse to water depends on the scrub in the brush....my friend Charlie always said as a self proclaimed tramp...from Wyoming...obstacles imposed by others(he believed too) tend to make it less efficient... and more confusing.. Where did that horse wonder off too lol!!!!

I have never been very fond of the word 'tolerance' as it implies that people are putting up with me, often under pressure. I prefer the word 'acceptance' as it feels much more like something I have chosen to do or be.
I must just be plain awkward because the story entitled 'Acceptance is the key'(4th edition) and 'Doctor, Alcoholic, Addict' (3rd edition) has a passage frequently read out at meetings that I really dislike and it's mainly about acceptance!!!

Oh you are absolutely right gjm and it's something that I struggle mightily with! I guess I put it the other way around because I have had experience of being on the receiving end of intolerance and I hate that feeling that underneath it all, I am still hated.

Of course, it is rarely personal but none the less it hurts or makes me angry (depending on my mood that day). What I try to do is to look for the lovable thing in people that I find hard to tolerate and over the years in recovery that has worked reasonably well for me.
