aa friends Community Group
Welcome. If you come to visit for the first time and have some questions feel free to ask. PM someone if you like but don't stay a stranger. We were all in the pit. We know a way out. No condemnation and no hammers. Just ask and prepare to make a load of friends.
When he was in his 60s, it came to him that the service he was doing in AA wasn't enough. He felt compelled to do more. He got involved in spiritual mentorship for some years. Ran an EAP program in NYC.
Then, off he went to Washington, DC, where he more or less ran a shelter for alcoholic homeless women. He did that for a number of years then returned to New York where he was still active with newcomers and doing 12 Step work. He is truly one of the most selfless men I have ever met. Or selfish... cause it keeps him sober. :)
Recently he developed a viral disease which left him unable to walk. For really the first time in the 25 or so years I've known him did he have to ask for help. He didn't hesitate. To me, true humility. Being able to ask for help when he needed it. Wheelchair, walker, cane, and now able to walk on his own. Back to driving everyone else around and doing 12 Step work.
I can only aspire to be like this man. The epitome of Love and Service. That's what it's all about folks.
