Serenity to me is being content with just "being". Not feeling antsy or anxious or worried....not thinking of what needs to be done or frantic about everything & was always in some type of squabble with someone or several someones. I was frantic about everything all my dang adult life. I don't feel nervous anymore, I can just "be" and it's indescribable! :)

Yes, it is a state a mind worth aiming for! In fact, it's one of my favorite gifts of sobriety. The ability to lay my head down on my pillow at night and not be tormented is a blessing. I always wondered, what is the definition of happiness for me? I have been confused about this my whole life,"What makes Lesley happy?' And I never had a good answer for that question. I would drink/use in order to attempt to find it, and then be confused because I could not find it.~Today, I realized that happiness is inner peace that comes with doing the next right thing. I am grateful for piece of mind, and the true happiness serenity brings.

My favorite Promise in the book about serenity and it has come true for me time after time after time in the past 22 yrs.... Pg. 68 in the 4th edition,
"Perhaps there is a better way-- we think so. For we are now on a different basis; the basis of trusting and relying upon god. We trust infinate God rather than our finite selves. We are in the world to play the role he assigns. Just to the extent that we do as we think He would have us, and humbly rely on Him, does He enable us to match calamity with serenity."
The emotions I am experiencing now used to motivate me to run and ruin my life causing chaos and calamity around me. Today I trust god will get me thru it and serenity is my gift from Him.
Who would-a-thunk??!! ;)
