"During acute depression ," wrote AA co- founder Bill W., "avoid trying to set your whole life in order at once. If you take on assignments so heavy that you are sure to fail in them at the moment, then you are allowing yourself to be tricked by your unconscious. Thus you will continue to make sure of your failure, and when it comes you will have another alibi for still more retreat into depression. In short, The all or nothing attitude is a most destructive on. Its best to begin with whatever the irreducible minimums of activity are. Then work for a enlargement of these - day by day". When I'm discouraged by setbacks, am I willing to start over?

I am glad to read this today and remind myself that everything doesn't have to be resolved at once. I am struggling with depression right now and it is easy to become totally overwhelmed by everything and forget that I can only do what I can do even if that is not that much at the moment. Its easy to make it worse by adding the failures of the day onto those that have already built up and starting tomorrow with an even bigger pressure and sense that everything is slipping away. Achieving small things and focusing on them instead of everything that is still undone can turn the cycle around. Easy to say but not always easy to do as depression blackens everything and can really overshadow rational thought. Sometimes the energy to do any right thing is hard to find.

This is a great post. When I began AA, I treated it like college. I had to study, memorize and know everything asap or I'd fail the class. Or even worse, I thought I wouldn't make high marks and my pride would be hurt. It really frustrated me when I worked my program with this mindset. I was operating with old thoughts and coping skills which never worked in the past. However, I couldn't see I was doing this at the time. I have learned to simplify my program and life. I have started enjoying my recovery program with AA because I am learning to step to the side instead of continuing to try and run the show. I wanted to be "fixed" immediately. Now I know AA doesn't provide a quick fix. It provides tools for life which I will never graduate from. These tools increase little by little... one step and day at a time. I will use these tools for a lifetime so what's the point of trying to speed it up. It's a process. God's timing is perfect.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
