Going to a convention

Ive never been to a conventoin in nearly 4 years sobriety so when some friends invited me to the Birmingham uk convention this weekend i thought "how nice to be asked" So i'm nearly on my way just a little nervous dont know why but sure I'll enjoy it I'll report back on sunday

Didnt have time to reply yesterday.Actually when I arived home I experianced a quite bad mood swing anxiouty fear that sort of thing This also ocured a couple of times over weekend Allthough I enjoyed the different and mixed company at the convention at certain times i felt like I needed to get out of the hotel which was a bit difficult as it was out of town raining a lot and i had been given a lift to the convention.
This didnt stop me escaping for a few hours on saturday via hotel bus & train into Birmingham
I did also in the many hours spent in endless meetings start to pick up resentments sometimes just bored by the relenlessness of it I did enjoy chatting to frieds i went with and other folks i had met before as well as new aquantansis
I have thought a little about it and think I may have become a creature of habit,so out of my comfort zone and in aday or so will doscuss it with a few close aa friends
I'mglad i tried it as i thought I should coming up 4 years sober

Boy I can so relate to that Rivalino! Getting out of our comfort zone is tough sometimes!! But necessary for me. I got too comfy and cozy and complacent years ago which led me to stop going to meetings (those resentments were building up big time!) and eventually to a drink.

It's something that we, as alcoholics, cannot afford to do. So, I sit in meetings, take what I want, and leave the rest. I don't have to like everyone. Not a requirement! They are there for the same reason as I, and their sharing is just as important as mine is. What they say may very well help another alcoholic even if it doesn't help me. Well, I guess it DOES help me if it's tolerance that I am practicing. ;)

So... doing things differently for me was essential and very key to me having a happy life today, free of resentments, and just damn good!
