I do not choose to be sober today, there is no choice to be made, the mental obsession has been removed. I do have more choices as far as my life is concerned though and that is an amazing joy and freedom.

I make choices every day that will have an effect on what happens tomorrow. Yes, I make choices.

I'd been thinking about 'choices' today after hearing a different perspective on the choice to drink at a given time. Say when someone says 'can I get you a drink'. So I looked up the meaning….

Choice: an act of choosing between two or more possibilities.

There is no two or more possibilities at that time. For me there's only one! It's not even thought of as an option at the time. I automatically say no thanks. I don't sit there and say, 'well let me make a choice here'.

As was mentioned to me today, I was being polite. That I don't drink is an overall choice. That I said no was a response.

This show is deep…

Of course we make choices. We make many thousands a day.
One of the most important ones I make a day at a time is the choice to not pick up that first drink.

Yeah and no.

Do I choose to breathe? Or does it just kinda happen? The more I look the more I see how so much of my life is really just a response with a justification after the event :) Addressing that reality with regard to drink was just the beginning...I choose to put one foot in front of the other but then my leg goes from under me and reminds me that choice ain't always up to me :)

Yet, I have more freedom today...one more paradox :)
