In our worst time, we have been irritable and difficult to live with. And when we feel most irritable, we are least likely to look at ourselves. Now in recovery, when someone irritates us, it is very useful to ask ourselves why we are so annoyed. We often find that the very thing that irritates us about someone else is the very quality in ourselves that we don't want to face.

When someone's whining bugs us, maybe it is our own capacity for whining that we reject. When someone's self-absorption gets under our skin, maybe we are sensitive about our own self-centeredness. Sometimes we find it easier to complain about a quality in others than to admit we are like that too.

Today I will use my feelings of irritation to guide me inward and know myself better.

I'm afraid I heard these same words in so many meetings and really for the life of me heard what they were saying but felt no emotional attachment to any , sense it might make. As time went on my feeling started coming alive again and with that came just what this post talks about through others I started seeing how true is the statement .Through others I see myself whether good or not so good behavior is identified. As a person who keeps things close to the cuff it was very hard to identify . Today i would like to think i try through just being me to look at all angles, as i interact with others but I do fall short quite often. I like to say Recovery has always been about adversity in my expeirence which always keep me on my toes . Not just a plain ol boring life, but so much to pay attention to. My sponsor Bill said "Don't Swim with eyes closed", I asked what do you mean , He replied you might not see where your going, he laughed and said "Pay Attention" I love that little story and it has become a part of my life. So for me always things to pay attention to if I think something involves me or not , if its none of my business or does not apply to me .I like Natalie Merchants little riff "Life is a funny funny thing"

The ole mirror effect. Dang I hated that when my sponsor first pointed it out. And to be honest sometimes I still do not get it...LOL Like her? Like Him? No way!!!

The one that i still have problems with is the Spiritual Axiom that whenever we are upset there is something wrong with us. So someone attacks me with a knife and I get upset there is something wrong with me also?
Well I guess so I have this huge whole in my back!!

Sorry it must be the steroids for this flu....hahhhaha opps its a honest program....ah heck with it, going to get some Turkey soup....
