This holds so true for me "I can't say upon what occasion or upon what day I came to believe in a Power greater than myself" that was my exp. it happened and didn't realize it for a few days.

This was such a big deal for me. I spent a huge amount of time focusing on what I didnt believe and arguing with other people about their beliefs and how they didnt make sense to me. I got nowhere except drunk. It wasnt until I changed my focus to allowing what I did believe to evolve and became open to go where ever my journey took me instead of holding onto all my old beliefs that anything changed.

Nicky, I didn't keep getting drunk but I can relate to what your saying.

My biggest problem in early sobriety is that I didn't believe in believing-- in anything. My own track record said loud & clear that I was an administrative disaster when came to deciding whom or what to trust, and I sure as heck wasn't about to go back to the sort of theologizing I indulged in when I was drinking. And in that sense I'm still beyond belief. I either know something from experience or I don't.

If believing in God was supposed people sober, then both I and the whiskey-swilling Irish Catholics from whom I sprang were living proof that this was a cruel jest. And yes, I've gotten drunk with published theologians, and I assure y'all that they slur their words when they've had too much just like the rest of us.
