Here are thousands of men and women, worldly indeed.
They flatly declare that since they have come to believe
in a Power greater than themselves,
to take a certain attitude toward that Power,
and to do certain simple things,
there has been a revolutionary change
in their way of living and thinking.
In the face of collapse and despair,
in the face of the total failure of their human resources,
they found that a new power, peace, happiness,
and sense of direction flowed into them.

When I came to AA I was a million miles away from even the willingnesss to believe in a Power greater than myself. At first I thought I might do the steps to prove that I wouldnt have a spiritual awakening even if I did them. The spiritual was absolutely, definitely not for me!
But here I am a few years later and I can also flatly declare that since I have come to believe in a Power greater than myself remarkable things have happened. A spiritual awakening perhaps?
In that time I became willing to do certain things and open minded as to where that might take me. And now my life is a million miles away from where it was before.
Not only do I no longer have the obsession to drink but me and my life are changed in so many ways and continue to change all the time.
Give me that power, peace, happiness and sense of direction over the terror, bewilderment, frustration and despair of my drinking every time.
