Welcome. If you come to visit for the first time and have some questions feel free to ask. PM someone if you like but don't stay a stranger. We were all in the pit. We know a way out. No condemnation and no hammers. Just ask and prepare to make a load of friends.
My grandma, my daddy's mom, was a teacher in a one-room-schoolhouse. She taught grades K thru 12 and my father was one of her students.
I didn't remember what she tried to instill in me from age 6 and younger untill I was 30 yrs old and in sobriety & recovering. One day in my first year of "continuous" sobriety, my sponser and I were readying for my first sober Christmas shopping at a close-out store full of nick-nacks. She grabbed one without me seeing it and gave it to me for Christmas.
It was a ceramic fairie that went in a circle with her hand held out as if to be spreading fairie dust as she danced to a song from the Nutcracker.
Both my mom and my g-ma were dead and gone by the time I was 16 yrs old. My mom used to take me into San Fransisco every winter to see the Play of The Nutcracker and my g-ma taught me about the reality of faries every summer as we walked the American River and surrounding foothills of the Sierra Mountains during the age of 3, 4, 5, & 6 yrs old.
My sponser had no idea these women did these things as our relationship was still quite new, yet God, this Power Greater than she and I, had told her which figurine to choose that would speak to me in a way there could be no mistaking what was being said....... nor by who it was being said....... nor to whom it was being said to.
The even bigger significance of this Christmas gift, on my first sober Christmas in over 17 yrs., was yet to be realized. In the following few years I slowly began to remember forgotten moments in time of the days spent with my g-ma on the river and the Spiritual teachings she related to me while we walked and talked.
Many of the memories were sensory in nature. Much of what she taught me was related to me at an age before a lot of my language skill was learned.
For example; while camping at a sober campout the next summer, I was stareing sleepily, almost in a daydream sort of state, or a meditative type state of mind, into the river water as I sat on the bank "soaking up God," as I call it, when suddenly, I remembered sitting in a diaper, in a warm pool of water on the bank of the river with my g-ma, safe inside a little circle of river rocks, staring sleepily at the sun sparkling on the water. This memory had to be of the age 2 or younger still to be in a diaper.
As time went on more and more of these 'sensory' memories came back to me. There is no explaining to anyone else, in words, the Spiritual Nature of the teachings she instilled in me. Yet I know without a doubt she was preparing my mind and soul..... my spirit..... to try and not forget the purely Spiritual place where I came from, & that God was everywhere inside & outside of me. That we are all connected, in Spirit, with each other, with all of nature, and the cosmos for as far as we can go and for all of eternity.
She had a way of helping people of all ages look at things from a perspective we would normally not look at things from. Like when we think we have looked at something from every direction possible, then she would show us another perspective.
Somehow her mind was trained to see things different from most normal folk. She had the ability to write her name or a complete sentance upside-down and backward, with either right or left hand, just as quickly and a s well as we write with one hand upside-right. She trained my mind to to look at things in this way also, but I had forgotten in all my drunken running away from me, myself, and I................ I now practice looking at things, people, God and life again in this way she taught me. It is such a magical thing. Its looking at stuff inbetween the lines, between consciousness and unconsciousness, between awake asleep, in the light of dawn or dusk, from below and above instead of the regular head on, black and white, linear perspective I was looking at things from.
I don't know why I was compelled to share all this here on this post................. but I did it anywho..................
In light, love, truth & service,
