12 step call

Had a call from the local AA phone help line to give a guy in my area a call I had an interesting and promising chat with him..He sems keen to give AA a try after doing the usual trying to control his drinking etc.
.I did say to him that he will probably have second thoughts between now and tommorow evening.Which is when I have arranged to meet him and take him to his first meeting.So hopefully he will show up I can only hope he does as most folks I have arranged to take to a meeting usually don't make that first step ie into the meeting but we'll see

Ha, that's an old saying G. Bee's knees means the best. In the urban dic, it says that bees carry pollen in little baskets located on its midsegments of their legs from one flower to another. Hmmmm how appropriate!!

In London we offer contact with a local sober person who can meet up with the person, have a chat and take them to a meeting. If they are not keen we give them the address of a meeting. Sometimes I have said that this might be their only window of opportunity to say yes to a call, as often our alcoholism tells us we don't need it. This is what we call a 12 step call.

Nicky and I are on the list for our area and always meet up with the person first. This allows the person a chance to ask some questions and get to see we don't have two heads!! If they want to come to a meeting we take them to our home group which is a beginners meeting.

Sadly, many people don't use our telephone service, they get on the internet and find a meeting in their area. This means that newcomers just pitch up at meetings and haven't a clue about what is going on, what alcoholism is etc.

This deprives sober alcoholics of the carrying of the message one alcoholic to another. So we try to arrange to meet up over the next week for coffee and hopefully help them to find their feet in the fellowship.
